Baby Sunglasses FAQ — Common Questions Answered

Baby Sunglasses — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything parents need to know about UV protection, sizing, and keeping sunglasses on your baby.

When should babies start wearing sunglasses?

Babies can start wearing sunglasses from birth. Newborns' eyes haven't yet developed the protective pigments that reduce UV damage, making them especially vulnerable. Pediatricians recommend UV-protective sunglasses from the first outdoor outing — particularly in direct sunlight, on reflective surfaces like water or sand, or at altitude.

Do babies need polarized sunglasses?

Yes. Polarized lenses go beyond UV filtering — they cut horizontal glare from reflective surfaces like water, sand, wet roads, and car windshields. For babies spending time at the beach or in open sunny spaces, polarized lenses significantly reduce eye strain. All Baby Sunnies use polarized UV400 lenses.

What UV protection do babies need?

Look for UV400 certification, which blocks 99–100% of both UVA and UVB radiation. This is equivalent to "100% UV protection" labeling. Avoid sunglasses rated only UV100 or UV200 — these block a fraction of harmful rays. All Baby Sunnies lenses are UV400-rated.

How do you keep sunglasses on a baby's face?

The most reliable solution is an adjustable strap. Baby Sunnies come with an adjustable silicone strap that wraps around the back of the head. Tips: fit the strap snug but not tight, introduce sunglasses as part of the outdoor routine from an early age, and let babies hold and explore them before putting them on.

Are Baby Sunnies safe for infants?

Yes. Baby Sunnies are designed specifically for infants: lightweight flexible frames that bend without breaking, shatter-resistant polycarbonate lenses, no detachable small parts, and secure adjustable straps. All lenses are UV400-rated. The brand has over 17,000 five-star reviews from parents worldwide.

What ages are Baby Sunnies designed for?

Baby Sunnies make two sizes: the baby range for 0–24 months (infants and early toddlers) and the kids range for ages 3–8 years. The baby range features smaller frames, softer materials, and an adjustable strap. The kids range has larger frames suited to active children.

What is the difference between UV400 and polarized?

UV400 is a UV protection standard — it means the lens blocks 100% of UV radiation up to 400 nanometres (UVA and UVB). Polarized is a glare-reduction technology for reflective surfaces. Polarized lenses are almost always UV400, but UV400 doesn't always mean polarized. Baby Sunnies lenses are both UV400 and polarized.

How do I clean Baby Sunnies?

Rinse with clean water and wipe gently with a soft microfiber cloth. Avoid paper towels or rough fabrics which can scratch polycarbonate lenses. For the strap, remove and hand wash with mild soap, then air dry. Do not use alcohol, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
